Women are primary caretakers of children in the household and their intra-household dynamics affect the wellbeing of the children. The empowerment of women acts as a means to enhance children’s status which ultimately leads to important developmental outcomes.

It has been opined that an effective way to address the worst forms of child labour, sexual abuse, improve nutritional status, overall wellbeing and ensure that more children attend schools is by empowering women. Hence, children and youth also benefit a great deal from women empowerment.
Through a preliminary study, we observed that effective children empowerment is hinged on the readiness and willingness of the mothers to embrace the intervention. Only free minds can embrace new ideas being proposed.
This understanding launched the Women empowerment section of Budding Leaders Empowerment Initiative.
Women Empowerment means giving power to women, which refers to providing each woman with opportunities to flourish financially, academically, socially and psychologically to bring about a positive change.

Arising from this, Advocacy visits were made to present the above concept to the Women Empowerment Services section of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development on the need to include Budlein in the Women Empowerment Programmes such as Vocational trainings, micro credit scheme etc. This has yielded positively. Currently, Budlein is partnering with the Women Empowerment Services in the micro credit scheme.
The microcredit scheme is the extension of microloans to borrowers who typically lack collateral, steady employment, or a verifiable credit history. This has been suggested to be a tool that can be helpful to possibly reduce feminization of poverty in developing countries. We believe strongly that this will have its positive impact in the lives of our children through the “Every child counts” campaign and youths through the Youth Impact Campaign

Highlights of the programme included sensitization of women from the seven (7) villages on( i) proper utilization of released funds (ii) Prevention of sexual abuse of the girl child (iii) required synergy between Budlein and the women for children empowerment

Africa’s Women’s Day Celebrated on Tuesday, 3rd August, 2021 at the State Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Africa’s Women’s Day is observed annually across the continent on 31 July and is a day earmarked to recognise and affirm the role of Women’s organising in achieving the political freedom of Africa and advancing the social and economic status of women on the continent.
